Grajski Lodn Shop
Gifts with a Local Touch and Unique Castle Souvenirs
Step into the inner courtyard of Slovenska Bistrica Castle and discover Grajski Lodn – a treasure trove of unique souvenirs inspired by local culture and tradition. Whether you are looking for the perfect gift for someone special or a small keepsake to take home from your castle experience, you are sure to find something for yourself in our little shop.
“Flurer My Way” – a castle product line featuring fresco motifs
We are especially proud of our exclusive line of souvenirs, which takes you into the world of Baroque art by painter Franz Ignaz Flurer. The collection is based on reinterpretations of timeless motifs from the frescoes the artist painted in our castle at the beginning of the 18th century. Part of the collection was developed in cooperation with the family-run company Jagababa. We are also proud of the story behind our T-shirts – the fabric was printed by TISKA Fabrics from Ajdovščina and sewn by Tanja Premzl Auer from Gaj pri Pragerskem.
Slovenian Makers – Unique Handcrafted Products
Choose from a varied selection of handmade ceramics, unique magnets, handmade candles, jewellery and much more. Every piece carries its own unique story, helping your visit to the castle remain in your memory for years to come.
Publications of the Slovenska Bistrica Cultural Institute
The Slovenska Bistrica Cultural Institute is also active in publishing. Our publishing house has issued six books by retired investigative journalist Mirko Munda: Stoletja Črešnjevca in njegove okolice (the latest publication), Zgornja Polskava in njena okolica, Spodnja Polskava in njena stoletja, Pragersko (chronicle), Pragersko in NOB, and Sto let organiziranih kulturnih dejavnosti na Pragerskem.
Why “Grajski Lodn”?
The word lodn comes from the German word der Laden, meaning “shop”. Today, the word is heard only rarely, having largely been replaced by terms such as “shopping centre”, “department store” and, most commonly, “shop”.
Historically, a lodn was a place where local people could find everything they needed for everyday life – from salt, sugar and flour to textiles and tools. Our Grajski Lodn draws its inspiration from this tradition.
Shopping Steeped in Tradition
A unique setting: The shop is located on the ground floor of the castle. As you step through the heavy wooden door into the vaulted room, you are greeted by the pleasant coolness typical of old castle walls.
An experience of the past: The room is furnished with replicas of historic shop furniture once typical of north-eastern Slovenia. We invite you to step behind the counter and relive the days when goods were still bought “by the kilo”.
A museum touch: The setting is complemented by a museum collection of Ark ethnological heritage, bringing to life the everyday world of people from Pohorje, Kozjansko and the surrounding area of Slovenska Bistrica.
