SHEPHERD’S DAY
From glowing embers to shepherds’ games – an unforgettable experience through children’s eyes.
During Shepherd’s Day at Ančnik Hillfort above Jurišna vas, we:
- roast apples over an open fire,
- discover traditional shepherds’ games, known locally as “pastirske tumarije”,
- make a shepherd’s hat from felt,
- pick meadow flowers,
- taste potatoes baked in hot embers.
MILLER’S DAY
From grain to bread – an authentic experience of life on Pohorje in days gone by.
At the Šetor Mill on the Bojtina Stream, we:
- learn how a watermill works,
- grind flour,
- understand the role of the mill and the miller in the past.
With the freshly ground flour, we continue to the straw-thatched Marot Homestead in Šmartno na Pohorju, where we:
- bake our own loaf of bread in a wood-fired bread oven,
- listen to stories about life in the past,
- play games,
- take our freshly baked bread home.
