Restoration of Smaller Sacral Monuments

Capel Chapel
The chapel in Spodnja Polskava was restored in 2016.

Kiker Cross
The cross stands beside the road leading from Spodnja Polskava to Zgornja Polskava. It was erected by its owners in 1910 and restored in 2019 at the initiative of Bojan Dolničar.

Wayside Shrine with the Statue of the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus
The shrine was erected in 1888 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I and the 10th anniversary of the pontificate of Pope Leo XIII. It is believed to have been commissioned by Anton Sicherl, the then owner of the local inn.
During this jubilee year, many towns and villages undertook extensive improvements to their surroundings. At the time, it was customary to plant tree-lined avenues and erect busts of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The Emperor had planned to visit Slovenska Bistrica to observe military manoeuvres and was expected to spend the night at Slovenska Bistrica Castle. Although he cancelled his visit at the last moment, he sent three archdukes—Wilhelm, Rainer, and Albrecht—to attend the manoeuvres in his place.
The wayside shrine in Spodnja Polskava was restored in 2021.

Stone Memorial Plaques Commemorating Local Men Fallen in the First World War
Thirty marble plaques commemorating local men who lost their lives in the First World War are mounted on the medieval cemetery wall in Zgornja Polskava. At the end of the war, the plaques were originally attached to the wall with iron clamps. In 1924, when the wall began to deteriorate and collapse, local residents restored it through voluntary work and secured the plaques with concrete.
These plaques represent a rare example of a memorial dedicated to fallen soldiers of the First World War in this area. The cemetery wall was restored in 2014. In August of the same year, 24 original plaques were conserved, while six severely damaged plaques were recreated.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, the restored wall was blessed during a commemorative ceremony on 17 September 2014 by Bishop Emeritus Stanislav Lipovšek of the Diocese of Celje. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Ferdinand Šerbelj.
